FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of fish might we catch?

One of the great things about fishing in Key West is the wide variety of fish we can catch. Offshore, Sailfish, Wahoo, Tuna, Dolphin (mahi-mahi), and the occasional Marlin are all found in the water of Key West. Inshore and on the reef are inhabited by Mutton and Yellow Tail Snapper, Grouper, Kingfish, Cero Mackerel, Barracuda, Shark and Jacks. Some species are more or less likely at different times of year, but one because we have the Gulf, The reef and the deep blue waters of the Gulf Stream, there is always something exciting to fish for here.

Are children welcome?

Children are not only welcome, but I truly enjoy having them onboard. Nothing builds a relationship between a parent and their children like the family activity of fishing together. A day on the waters off Key West, Florida can bring memories that last a lifetime. There is no minimum age for children. I’ve had children 1 yr. old and younger, however sometimes conditions are such that a young child, one that has not developed their motor skills sufficiently, may not be able to balance or protect themselves from the rocking of the boat. When these conditions are present, as Captain I will have to refuse to allow small children to go. The safety of my customers, both young and old is of utmost importance to me

Is there a bathroom on the boat?

Yes, The Southbound has a clean, comfortable restroom or “Head” down below in the forward section of the boat with a modern marine electric toilet

Do we get to keep what we catch?

All edible fish are the customers to keep. At the end of the day the 1st mate will fillet and bag any or all the edible fish the customer wish to take. There are many restaurants in Key West that will cook your catch. It’s a great way to end a day on the water and nothing reminds people of what a great time they had on the Southbound in Key West like a delicious fish dinner when they get back home.
